A large chunk of mobile traffic brings an ear-to-ear smile on your face. But that’s not the end of the road. There are plenty follow-up workarounds that you need to execute, in order to get the best out of the traffic that your site is getting.
2016 is coming, and it’s high time you figure out the best strategies to churn out butter from the milk (mobile traffic on your site). In this article, I’ll make you familiar with some of the latest happenings in this segment so you could strategize better.
The android adwords app
The Google Play Store has an android app called AdWords – it’s from Google Inc. The app lets you do everything related to your ad campaigns including accessing the campaign stats, consulting with a Google expert, etc. Google is continuously adding new functionality to it.
The latest seasoning by Google is adding video campaigns in the AdWords interface. Google has recently announced that TrueView YouTube campaigns would be merged with AdWords campaigns. Now onwards, the AdWords app will offer all sorts of video campaign insights including views and impressions. It’ll also enable advertisers to adjust bids and budgets of a TrueView campaign from the AdWords platform.
The AdWords app was rolled out by Google in March this year, and since then, Google has been updating it with add-ons. In the month of August, Google added performance data and billing section to it; this indicates more updates are on the cards. Hence, download the app today if you haven’t downloaded it yet, and start using it to view your campaign’s performance.
Deceptive mobile redirect
If Google insider Andrey Lipattsev is to believe, then spammy mobile sites and mobile apps will find it increasingly difficult to stay off Google’s radar. He has recently attended a Q&A session, and he said Google is currently working on ways to identify and penalize the suspicious mobile affiliate networks.
Such networks treat users like shuttlecocks in the game of tennis. A user ends up on a page, which he doesn’t want to visit. Such practices are considered spammy by Google. If your app or website has affiliate links, make sure anyone, who clicks on those links directly go to the landing page. Alongside, check the quality of the landing page.
My advice is, don’t go for affiliate links, go for 100 x 100 banner ads instead. Many advertisers have traditionally refused to walk down this territory because paid links in a blog post are hard to spot, especially if the links look natural. But Google is tightening its grip around mobile affiliate networks, and so, you should be careful.
Mobile semantic web
The semantic web is in the making, and technologies corresponding to the mobile platform are getting smarter and smarter. What’s more interesting is the two are having a courtship at this moment, and will soon tie the knot.
The semantic web is like CSS3 of searching. It acknowledges that a searcher might access a search engine from a Smart device. Just as CSS3 restores a site’s appearance irrespective of what devices are being used to access it, the semantic web renders a unique result irrespective of device type and search query.
Searching has changed a lot lately. Voice searching has been seeing its popularity going up, and experts are of the opinion that it’ll soon replace searching by typing on the keyboard. In future, the search engines will be intelligent enough to understand the meaning of search queries, and semantic web will become a reality.
Smart devices play an important role here; these (smart) devices push the search engines to acquire intelligence and understand the context of a search. The Interactive Query Completion Template, the recent updates including Panda and Penguin, and the Knowledge Graph are some of the tools, which Google has been using to make the searching process more context dependent.
To catch up, make sure the content on your site and the marketing strategies employed by you are fine-tuned to meet the demands of the mobile semantic web.
Devise customized strategies
As you can see, I didn’t lay out instructions but only information. There are suggestions to and fro, but not much of instructions. It’s up to you how best you can make use of the information shared here, and develop customized strategies.
